Is AT&T Uverse Any Good?

I just went through the process of switching from DirecTV to AT&T U-verse. There were some glitches in the switchover, but over all, I’m glad I changed. Internet download speeds are much faster with uverse. The TV channel lineup is about the same. And the AT&T channel guide is nicer to use (so says my son and me.)

Almost Cinco de Mayo!

It’s almost Cinco de Mayo! I grew up in California and have no latin blood, but Cinco de Mayo has been something to celebrate ever since I was a kid – even before I could drink. As a school boy, we used to learn simple Mexican dances, and we’d make simple costumes and do art projects. But I grew up in a part of California that had lots of latinos. To tell the truth, I have no idea why we are so crazy for the “holiday” today. Sure, adults can shake up their favorite margarita recipe and get trashed for a reason. Just like they can drink green beer on St. Patrick’s day. But do people in Mexico celebrate our Fourth of July? I don’t think so…

On that note, it’s time for some tequila. Long live Cinco de Mayo! Ay carumba!

Tiger Woods mistress Rachel Uchitel was allegedly paid $10 million to keep quiet about their affair. That’s a lot of money to keep some sexy text messages and hotel room romps out of the press. Who knows what else the two did together. And she’s just one of his mistresses. Some porn star Joselyn James released raunchy text messages reportedly from Tiger. Sorry, Mr. Golf King, but she’s not that attractive. What were you thinking? Note to Tiger: next time text your wife something simple, like “c u 2nite”. And keep your texting in your pants.

Divorce is probably the hardest experience I ever went through, and it took me years to recover from the end of my marriage. When it comes to children and divorce, it can be just as difficult, if not more so, since they aren’t in control. According to government figures, half of all US marriages end in divorce. If you’re a parent and you end up getting divorced, the best you can do is strive to put your kids first. Make decisions that are in their best interests. Remember, divorce doesn’t necessarily scar children, but selfish parents certainly do.

Great article at Yahoo Shine about how some parents end up ruining their kids social life. It asks whether your house is too clean for your kids friends to feel comfortable, are you staging too many events for your child, do you micromanage? It’s great for parents to be involved in their kids lives, but you need to give them independence, too. Of course, maybe not too much independence like Miley Cyrus out of control. Just find a balance that works for your family.

What a week! A little rough for me, I have to admit. Things aren’t quite clicking in many parts of my life. But when weeks like that happen, it’s best to focus on what is good. Keep an attitude of gratitude. And since it’s Friday, Happy Hour, I am grateful for good cocktail recipes! If you’re a tequila lover and want the flavor of Mexico, this margarita recipe is best with Herradura Anejo tequila. For a more autumny tequila drink, try the caramel apple pie, with tequila, butterscotch schnapps, apple cider and lemon juice.
